ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner Mr. Robert Brinkley called on Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at Prime Minister’s House on Monday to discuss the bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest to both Pakistan and the U.K.
The British High Commissioner while acknowledging the fact that the present political situation was an exclusively domestic matter stated that as a friend of Pakistan, the UK government sincerely wished and hoped that the Government and opposition parties of the country will soon be able to amicably resolve their differences. He emphasized that his Government cared greatly about peace and stability of Pakistan which is imperative for the economic and social development of the country.
The prime Minister briefed the British High Commissioner on the evolving political situation in the country, the efforts that he undertook for the national reconciliation and measures which are being taken to rebuild the trust and confidence among the political stake holders.
The Prime Minister said that holding procession and freedom of expression is the right of every citizen. For this, the Prime Minister said a proposal is under consideration to set up a Hyde Park Corner like facility in one of the major parks in Islamabad where the people will be able to vent their feelings and emotions on any issue of national interest.-SANA
