Govt for development of Information Technology

ISLAMABAD: The Government has taken several initiatives to develop Information Technology that have resulted in substantial increase in IT base exports during the last few years. Pakistani IT exports have increased from 23 million dollars in 2003 to 169 million dollars in the last fiscal year. These exports for the first seven months of the current financial year have shown an increase of over forty five percent over the corresponding period.

Pakistan Software Technology Export Board has also embarked upon a programme to set up Software Technology parks in big cities. Under this programme eleven parks have so far been established in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The Board has also acquired fifty acres of land In Islamabad and fifteen acres at Karachi besides Civil Aviation Authority has provided land in Lahore and Karachi for establishment of IT parks

In result of provision of facilities in the IT, work-force has increased to over one hundred twenty thousand over the last five years and national IT enterprises are now effectively attracting international business.-SANA
