ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan criticized the decision to impose Governor’s Rule in Punjab and said there was no justification for the move when the PML(N) enjoyed comfortable majority in the provincial assembly.
Rising on a point of order, he was of the view that the PPP government has violated the understanding reached between Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif under which they agreed to respect each other’s mandate, restore 1973 constitution to its original shape and would not allow undemocratic forces to destabilize the system.
Ch. Nisar said it was regrettable that the PPP with 124 members has formed the government in the Centre where formation of the government requires strength of 172 whereas PML (N) with strength of 174 in Punjab has been denied the right where formation of the government requires only 186 members.
He pointed out that 38 out of 84 members of PML (Q) were supporting PML (N). The leader of opposition held out an assurance that PML (N) would sink differences and support the government if it saw any threat to the democratic system.-SANA
