Sharifs recieve VIP guest who arrives Lahore by Saudi Airlines

ISLAMABAD. Pakistan Muslim League (N) Leader Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and his younger brother Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif received a VIP guest at the Allama Iqbal International Airport who traveled by Saudi Airlines from Jeddah and took him to their Raiwind residence in tight security arrangements., reliable sources told Business Recorder here Tuesday afternoon.

The sources declined to name the “guest” but said he has played mediatory / reconciliatory role between the estranged leaders of Pakistan several times to get the country out of the woods and solve its dangerous political problems. However Sharif’s media advisor senator Pervez Rashid declined to confirm nationality of the guest.

It may be recalled that Saudi Arabia played critical role in arranging Pervez Musharraf’s resignation as Pakistan in August 2008 and bring about reconciliation between the government and the opposition parties. .

The Saudi intelligence chief Prince Muqrin Bin Abdul Aziz visited Pakistan last month and met President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani. According to media reports, he had asked the Pakistani leadership to resolve all “internal issues” through “mutual dialogue though a statement of the Prime Minister’s office about his meeting with Mr. Gillani indicated that India-Pakistan relations dominated.

Prince Muqrin stressed the need for stability and peace in Pakistan, equating this with Saudi Arabia’s own peace and stability. According to the statement, he said both countries “are united in confronting the challenges of terrorism and are committed to eradicate this menace as it gives a negative perception” of Islam.

Political observers say that Nawaz’s Sharif’s coming out in open against President Asif Ali Zardari and hs decision to take part in the Lawyers’ long march and sit in next month has sent ripples of uncertainty in the corridors of power in Islamabad, They said Pakistan’s friends like Saudi Arabia, China , Britain and the United States are playing an active role for continued understanding and political cooperation between the two mainstream national parties.

The analysts attach great significance to Prime Minister Gillani’s assurance to the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Monday that PPP would not make any effort to destabilise the PML (N) led coalition government and that he would take up the judges issue with the President on his arrival from China.
Sources said that Prime Minister Gillani is making effort for damage control so that the democratic system is not derailed and the security forces are not over burdened to maintain law and order in the settled areas and fight terrorism in the tribal areas of the country.
