BAGHDAD: 40 people were killed and 60 sustained injuries when a female suicide bomber denoted herself in a tent filled with woman and children on a pilgrimage to a Shiite holy city south of Baghdad today. Officials said that separate tents for men and women were set up along the road to Karbala, offering pilgrims food, drinks and a place to rest.
A procession leader said that he noticed a “suspicious looking woman,” dressed in black and with her face covered, walk into the tent and sit down, adding that when someone asked the woman who she was, there was a huge explosion. The blast caused panic and grief among the masses. It was the deadliest attack in Iraq this year and the third straight day of bombs targeting Shiite pilgrims.-SANA
