ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) would receive policy directive from the Government in a month for launching of the 3-G mobile technology in the country. This was stated by Chairman of the Authority Dr. Muhammad Yaseen in an interview in Islamabad on Wednesday.
He said PTA is also in contact with foreign companies for manufacturing of mobile telephone sets in the country and hoped that investors would be invited for the purpose during roll out of the 3-G. The Chairman PTA said a research cell is also working on the subject and they are in touch with the Government for reduction of taxes to induce companies to make investment in mobile phone set manufacturing.
Dr. Yaseen said the PTA is also working on a broad band vision envisaging to make Pakistan hub for regional and international telecom traffic. He said negotiations are underway with international operators for increasing broad band network that would also lead to substantial reduction in broad band charges.
About blocking of the SIM of anonymous or obnoxious callers, he said a mobile company has already introduced the facility while PTA is asking others to follow the suit.-SANA
