LAHORE: The load shading in the country was reduced to three hours from eight hours as the deference between demand and supply declined to only 1000 MW due to the better load management and the power production. Talking to a private TV, Pakistan Electric Power Company’s (PEPCO) spokesman Tahir Basharat Chima on Monday said that now hydel sector was generating 1250 MW and thermal sector was generating 9750 MW daily. The load shading duration has declined to two hours for textile sector, six hours for furnace mills and three hours for domestic consumer daily.
Chima said that during last five years, the power demand in the country had increased due to consumer financing. He said that only air conditioners demanded 5000 MW during every summer season in the country. While urging for energy conservation, the spokesman appealed the nation that this was the only way to end the load shading in the country.
He said that PEPCO had to pay Rs. 1 billion daily to Independent Power Plants (IPPs) and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for circular debt while the PEPCO’ had to collect Rs. 272 billion from the government institutions.
