350 tons Urea being imported for Rabi

ISLAMABAD: Over three hundred and fifty thousand tones of Urea is being imported at a cost of one hundred million dollars while the same quantity has already been imported to ensure its adequate supply to the farmers for the current Rabi Season.

A spokesman of Ministry of Food and Agriculture said the Trading Corporation of Pakistan has recently issued a tender for the purchase of forty thousand tones of Urea. The TCP will issue more tenders in the days to come to ensure timely arrival of the fertilizer in the country.

He said apart from some areas, Urea’s availability has been ensured in the country through an efficient supply system, adding the situation will improve further within the next few weeks. Responding to question, the spokesman said that the provincial governments are keeping a strict vigilance on the sale of Urea at fixed rates and that strict action has also been taken against the dealers involved in overcharging and black marketing.-SANA
