Semi educated business leaders impeding economic development

Islamabad: The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday said government should stop spending heavily on promotions of so-called business leaders who have never served country but themselves. These leaders are impeding development.

The structure of business chambers and associations should be changed and fake elections should be discouraged to bring real leadership to the front.

Government should avoid making the business leaders part of foreign trips who prefers to make personal contacts and business deals. “Majority of the leaders of business community lacks collective thinking,” said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President of the Pakistan Economy Watch.

Best part of the chambers of commerce and industry across country have been taken hostage by ‘Qabza Groups’ who are inflicting great loss to the genuine businessmen, small traders and public in general.

“Photo sessions and public relations activities are the main objectives of these semi educated leaders,” he said adding that these elements have never helped government by forwarding effective and practical proposals for development. One can find them in media even if they are out of the country or admitted to hospital.

Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that the posts of commercial attachés should be abolished to relieve public exchequer. Most of the officials are posted on political basis. They know that their promotion depends on connections which has nothing to do with performance.

Commercial attachés spend most of their time planning for new assignment and keep political masters happy. Pakistan will not loose any business in absence of these. -Pak Economy Watch
