BB martyrdom creates political vacuum: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was the symbol of the federation and struggled through out her life for the promotion of democracy and empowerment of masses. He was speaking after Quran Khawani for the departed soul of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed at the Prime Minister house in Islamabad on Saturday.

The Prime Minister said that the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto created a political vacuum in the country but he pledged that the PPP led government will follow the path of reconciliation and rise of people as envisioned by Benazir Bhutto.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that Pakistan Peoples Party has taken on board all the political forces to make the country strong and steer it out of crises as visualized by the Shaheed leader. He said following the general elections, the PPP formed coalition governments at the center and the provinces to promote the environment of reconciliation and cohesion for the betterment of the people. Paying tributes to the late leader, the Prime Minister said that Benazir Bhutto gave voice to the people and represented the downtrodden segments of the society.

He said after the martyrdom of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto carried the mission of his father forward for the welfare of the poor people. He said the PPP has roots in all the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas and therefore the late leader was the only hope for the peace and stability in the region and the world at large.

Referring to his nomination to the slot of Prime Minister by the party, he said it reflects its belief on the unity of federation. Sharing his personal experiences of twenty one years of work with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that he found her leader having great resolve for provision of rights to the people and the development of the country.

He said for the glorification of this great vision, she offered her life and became immortal in the hearts of the people. He said the late leader proved her worth by fulfilling the manifesto and ideology of her father Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is a peace loving country and does not want war instead we desire friendly relations with all neighbours including Afghanistan and India. The Prime Minister said at the same time our common friends are trying their best to persuade India to avoid conflict and any sort of misadventure.

He however made it clear that Pakistan Armed forces are in a state of preparedness and fully capable to defend the motherland. He reassured the International community that Pakistan will not be the first to do any misadventure and only act in case of any aggression against its sovereignty and territorial integrity.-SANA
