KAMRA CANTT: The newly elect President District Bar Association Attock Advocate Sardar Imtiaz Khan has pledged and committed to struggle till the restoration of deposed Chief Justice Supreme Court Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry along with his other fellow judges. He said the sacrifices of lawyer community will ultimately change the scenario of the country as democratic institutions can only be strengthened if the freedom of justice is prevail in the country.
These views he expressed while talking to the local media after his taking over the office of the elected president of the District Bar Association (DBA), along with Advocate Saqib Shah Mehmood Zaib and Advocate Malik Sajjad Ahmed Rafique as finance and library secretaries, respectively on Friday.
Earlier, the candidates for the three posts were elected unopposed in the election held at the District Bar office here on Wednesday. However, the elections for three remaining posts of secretary-general, joint-secretary and vice-president will be held on January 3.
The lawyers also elected a 10-member executive committee. They are: Ameer Afzal, Safdar Ali Malik, Malik Abdul Malik, Muhammad Sher Bahadur, Muhammad Sadiq, Malik Shafqatur Rehman, Malik Muhammad Shafique, Syed Adnan Shabeer, Syed Tasawar Hussain and Ahmed Nawaz. The sources said that Malik Israr and Syed Muhammad Tariq were in the race for the slot of general secretary; Raja Aftab and Mujahid Kazmi have filed nominations for vice-president’s office and Maqsood Ahmed, Malik Tahir Akram and Zulfiqar Ali Khan for joint-secretary’s post.
While Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Ali Ahmed Kurd said that he has no personnel grudge with present rulers but wants the restoration of pre-Nov 3 2007 judiciary. He said, “If Benazir Bhutto would have alive the judiciary had been restored on pre Nov 3 position”. This he said while talking to a delegation of lawyers from Hasil Pur who called on him at his office.
The lawyer leader said that the lawyers’ movement would bring fruit soon the only thing needed is the discipline and unity among the lawyers. He asked to Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar to step down over the issue of awarding extra marks to his daughter Farah Hameed Dogar.
SCBA President said that the parliament can make accountable any person for his extra judicial deeds adding that Pakistan Bar Council parted ways with the lawyers’ movement and now SCBA is responsible for running the lawyers’ movement. He said that the lawyers gave enough time to government for the restoration of deposed judiciary but they were failed to fulfill their commitments and now the lawyers decided to launch the movement for the restoration of the deposed judges.
Kurd said if the government would fail to restore the judiciary until March 2009 then all options are open for the lawyers’ community. Ali Ahmed Kurd further stated that if India dare to attack Pakistan then it would be given befitting reply by Pak army. He also assured armed forces of lawyers’ full support if India attacked on Pakistan.-SANA
