SSGC suspends six for pipeline mishap

KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company Thursday said that a crude oil pipeline in the Korangi area of Karachi was damaged inadvertently by a Sui Southern Gas crew yesterday (Wednesday) at about 6.15 pm. This caused a leakage in the line leading to a spillage. There was no pipe burst or any fire accident.

According to a press release from the company here, the concerned SSGC’s authorities immediately cut off the gas distribution, PARCO emergency was informed and their emergency response team rushed to the site closing the oil leakage by 8 pm.

The statement said SSGC along with the help of city dist. government cordoned off the area and helped evacuate the residents from their homes to ensure their safety.

The press release said SSGC senior management reached the site and immediately formed a committee for a departmental enquiry with the senior most executives. Action was taken by suspending six senior executives for their negligence, which had lead to the incident.

Rapid response to the situation was taken by setting up a camp for the residents, food, medicine and ambulances were sent to the venue along with the janitorial crew to clean up the leakage and other pilferages of crude oil. All this was made possible with the help and cooperation of the city district government and the city Nazim Mustafa Kamal.-SANA
