ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Wajid Shams-ul-Hassan on Friday resented systematic vilifying campaign of Indians against Pakistan and suggested baseless accusations without proof must be avoided. Talking to a local news channel, he stressed upon joint Indo Pak efforts to eliminate terrorism from the entire region. ”Pakistan is itself a victim of terrorism and it is a major frontline state in the fight against terrorism”, he said.
He said: Blaming Pakistan forthwith after Mumbai mayhem is somewhat political as elections in India are near and extremist elements in India are striving to oust Congress party from power. To a question regarding threat of military action, he said India would suffer more in case of a conflict with Pakistan. Pakistani nation is fully united to defend the homeland against any aggressive designs, the envoy said, warning of economic consequences and other implications for the region in case of a conflict, especially for India.
While Prime Minister Advisor on Interior Rehman Malik has said that the people of Pakistan and India want peace, not war. Talking to media at Karachi airport on Friday, Malik said Pakistan offered unconditional cooperation to India after the Mumbai incidents. “Terrorism incident is condemnable wherever it happens,” he said. Rehman Malik said that the leaders of the two countries were tackling the issue wisely, adding that the elements interested in Indo-Pak war would not succeed in their designs.-SANA
