ISLAMABAD: National Security Conference on Monday said that all political parties and democratic forces firmly support the government and the armed forces of Pakistan in defending Pakistan’s security interests. The conference was presided over by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at PM’s House in which leaders of major political parties in the country participated.
However, the conference unanimously adopted a joint statement saying it was a steadfast resolve of Pakistani nation to defend its honour and dignity as well as Pakistan’s sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity.
The meeting also strongly condemned the reprehensible terrorist attacks in Mumbai and said that people of Pakistan shared the grief of the people of India and extend their sympathy to the families of the victims.
the political parties took strong exception to the unsubstantiated allegations made in haste against Pakistan, the meeting stated as Pakistan’s abhorrence to any act of violence perpetrated against innocent persons.
Pakistan’s desire to pursue its constructive engagement with India in a comprehensive manner with a view to building confidence and mutual trust for establishing friendly and good-neighborly relations with India on the basis of settlement of all outstanding disputes, the meeting added.
It is pertinent to mention that on the invitation of the government, the leaders representing all political parties met in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss the developments ensuing from the recent Mumbai terrorist attacks, including implications for national security.
However, the Prime Minister lauded the unequivocal support assured to the government on the matter of national security by political parties across the country.
The participants included PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Mualana Fazal-ur-Rehman (JUI-F); Imran Khan (PTI), Qazi Hussain Ahmed (JI) ); Maulana Sami ul Haq (JUI-S); Attique Ahmad Khan, PM (AJK), Sheikh Rashid Ahmad (PML-A) Muhammad Farooq Sattar(MQM); Haji Munir Khan Aurakzai (FATA); Leader of Opposition, Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif,, Chief Minister Punjab, Mehmood Khan Achakzai (PkMAP) and many others participated in the meeting.-SANA
