PM vows to redress all grievances of Balochistan

QUETTA: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani has assured to remove all the grievances of the people of Balochistan and announced to provide all necessary assistance for the complete rehabilitation of quake affectees.

Addressing a public meeting in Ziarat on Monday, he said 2.09 billion rupees have been allocated for the reconstruction of the houses damaged by the calamity. He said a survey was conducted by the Pakistan Army and FC and according to their estimates, the federal government has provided the necessary funds for the reconstruction of every damaged house.

The Prime Minister said the government has taken immediate action and started relief and rehabilitation efforts soon after the calamity struck the area. He said that seventeen thousand and six hundred tents have been distributed among the affectees and over twenty four hundred are required.

He said in view of the approaching winter season, 2750 winterized tents have been provided to the victims while three thousand more winterized tents will be distributed to them. Similarly three hundred, one room shelters have been constructed while eight thousand more are being constructed to protect the affectees from the cold winter season. More than ninety eight thousand blankets and quilts have so far been distributed while ninety two thousand are in hand for onward distribution among the affected people. Similarly over seventeen hundred tones of Ration have been distributed while eleven hundred tones are in the storage which is adequate for the next three months.

The Prime Minister it is the responsibility of the government to provide essential items to the affectees and assured that there will be no shortage of these items. The Prime Minister said that the federal government will also consider for remission in the agriculture loans and utility bills for the districts affected by the calamity.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani said the government took on board the provincial government, parliamentarians of the province and other stakeholders for carrying out relief and rehabilitation work in the affected areas.

He said soon after the quake shook the Balochistan, he announced compensation of three hundred thousand for the heirs of the each deceased and one hundred thousand for each injured. The President also announced compensation of two hundred thousand each for the heirs of the deceased and fifty thousand for each injured.

The Prime Minister assured that the government will take practical possible steps for addressing the grievances of the people of Balochistan. He said his government believes in reconciliation and is taking along all the political forces and the provinces for the redressal of the problems.

The Prime Minister said that the federal cabinet has been expanded with a view to give representation to every area. He said the left over areas of Balochistan will be given representation in the cabinet to ensure their speedy development.

Referring to the foreign Policy, the Prime Minister said Pakistan today is not alone and the world recognizes our ideology and principles and wants to remove backwardness of the region.

He said the government will explore the agriculture and mineral potential of Balochistan besides provision of health and education facilities to bring the province at par with the developed areas of the country.

Later, the Prime Minister distributed compensation cheques among the victims of the quake. Earlier the Chief Minister Balochistan Aslam Raisani apprised the Prime Minister about the relief and rehabilitation activities in quake affected areas and the problems of the province.

Governor Balochistan Zulfiqar Magsi also spoke on the occasion. On this occasion, Officials of the NDMA briefed the Prime Minister about the losses and measures taken for the rehabilitation of the people.-SANA
