Dryer blast leaves nine killed in paper mill

GUJRANWALA: The building of a paper mill in Kamoke tehsil collapsed after an explosion inside the factory early Thursday killing seven workers and causing injuries to twenty others while Four were serious. Rescue teams of 1122 rushed to site of mishap which occurred around Sehri time after one of the dryers of the paper mill exploded and caused the building to collapse.

After hectic operation the rescue teams removed the bodies and rescued the wounded workers trapped under the debris. The injured were shifted to tehsil and district headquarters hospitals.

According to factory sources, five night shift workers—Mohsin, Shoaib, Abbas, Mahmood and Manzoor were killed on the spot while Mohammad Abbas and Aziz ur Rehman died at the hospital. They were hit by the metal peices of the machinery which exploded suddenly, sources said.

Four of the 20y injured were critical and were shifted to Lahore. Police told reporters that they arrested owner of the factory Ayub and were investigating the tragic incident. -SANA
