The US Embassy in the capital and its Consulate in Karachi have received two separate envelopes containing unknown white powder on night between Thursday-Friday. Confirming the reports, US Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said that tests were being conducted on the substance. But he declined any comment on whether or not any embassy staffers had become sick or were under observation.

Fintor said that the Embassy in Capital and Consulate in Karachi would remain open and there was no plan to close them yet. He further added that a very small number of people had touched the envelopes, and among them nobody was showing any signs of any kind of illness.

Officials have refused to comment about where these envelops came or to whom those addressed. However this incident has raised security scare in the US Embassy. It is feared a worldwide panic of Anthrax envelopes connected with Al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussain’s
Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) by the US government after 9/11 attacks.

Back in 2001 The Anthrax virus polluted letters and envelopes of white powder had created an environment and a sense of fear and uncertainty all over the world particularly in America. According to information available the US authorities initiated a probe into the incident.

For me this news can be potential threat for US Pakistan relation; though yet Pakistan has been playing a role of front line ally in US’s war on terror. For last several months Pakistan has been criticized for not taking sufficient measures to eradicate the menace of terrorism and mitigating militancy factors. I am not sure who can send such things to US missions at least not any Pakistani. While they know what chaotic situation these types of actions can create for Pakistan. I find an anti-Pakistan mood is being established and ways are being devised to attack Pakistan moreover Pakistan despite the fact is no more a despotic ruled territory thus the US “do more” “do more” call has been declined also.
