PESHAWAR: Justice Tariq Pervez took fresh oath as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court after his reappointment notification was issued by the Law Ministry here Friday. Governor NWFP Owais Ahmed Ghani administered the oath to Chief Justice Tariq Pervez under the 1973 Constitution in a ceremony at Governor House.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Chief Minister NWFP Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Provincial Ministers, Judges of the Peshawar High Court, high ranking officials of the provincial administration, IGP, senior lawyers and deposed judges Dost Muhammad Khan and Shahjahan Yousafzai.
Justice Tariq Pervez deposed Justices Shahjahan Yousafzai, Dost Muhammad Khan and Ejaz Afzal Khan were sacked along with sixty other judges by former President Pervez Musharraf when he imposed emergency on November 3, 2007.
Official sources said that Chief Justice Tariq Pervez will retain his seniority, as it was on November 2, 2007, and would also be entitled to pension benefits etc. on the basis of his original appointment in accordance with the Constitution and law.-SANA
