One of my friend has sent me these pictures from India and he is Muslim, He says: “after partition we are [minority Muslims] still being humiliated by others for our services to nation, so partition is a big mistake as well as Himalayan blunder, Jinna did favor British, that is, they win divide and rule implementation, after partition Pakistan going smooth?” His question whether Pakistan going smooth was really touchy.. However we Pakistani understand this has less to do with partition.
I find these pictures really interesting and Indian perspective about the division of Sub-Continent.. These pictures are by Margaret Bourke-White from Khushwant Singh’s book Train to Pakistan, Roli Books. But for what i am sure is these pictures are not only true for Muslims migrating from Hindustan to Pakistan but for the Hindus migrating from Pakistan to India.
Millions left for their promised new homeland with smiles on their faces as trains left both India and Pakistan. Over 10 million people were uprooted from their homeland and traveled on foot, bullock carts and trains to their promised new home. An aged and abandoned Muslim couple and their grand children sitting by the the roadside on this arduous journey. “The old man is dying of exhaustion. The caravan has gone on,” wrote Bourke-White.
