SRINAGAR: Chairman Jammu Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL) and leader of APHC, Sheikh Abdul Aziz was killed in firing by Indian army on a mmassive public march towards Muzaffarabad at Bonyar on Monday. Sheikh Aziz and Shabir Shah were leading the march which was stopped by a massive use of force by Indian army. Aziz, a veteran pro-independence leader, was a member of Hurriyat Executive Council.
He was considered one the founders of the armed struggle for the freedom of Kashmir, however, an organisation “Al-Jihad” under his leadership had been fighting against Indian army for many years. He had been imprisoned many times after establishing JKPL as he was considered pro-Pakistan. In 2001, he visited to Pakistan; he touched Pak-land with bowing his head down to earth at Lahore air port
Meanwhile, in Srinagar Indian army fired teargas shells to disperse assembled people outside the State Hospital when three shells landed inside a ward of the hospital sparking panic among doctors and patients and disrupting the services. However, protests broke out across Indian held Kashmir despite government’s imposition of curfew.
