ISLAMABAD: The coalition parties have decided that the session of the National Assembly would continue till resignation of the President or culmination of the impeachment proceedings. A decision to this effect was taken at a joint parliamentary party meeting of the ruling coalition held at the parliament house in Islamabad on Monday prior to beginning of the 6th session of the National Assembly.
The Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani chaired the meeting. It was attended by members belonging to the PPP, PML-(N), ANP, JUI (F) and some independents. Later, briefly talking to newsmen Finance Minister Syed Naveed Qamar said all participants of the meeting strongly supported the decision to initiate impeachment proceedings against the President.
He said a unanimous decision was taken to continue the current session of the house till logical conclusion of the impeachment move or resignation of the President. Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf said there was great enthusiasm among the members about impeachment. He said things are moving ahead smoothly. He said the Prime Minister took the coalition members into confidence on his successful visit to the United States.
PML-(N) leader Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said today’s joint parliamentary party meeting has proved it beyond any doubt that the impeachment move would succeed as it has support of majority of the members. The ruling coalition has a total strength of 253 in the National Assembly. Today’s meeting was attended by 244 members. These included 125 from PPP, 91 of PML-(N), and 11 from FATA, 13 members of ANP, 4 MNAs of JUI (F) and five independents.
Before that All members of the ruling coalition in a meeting of the parliamentary party on Monday supported the impeachment of the president, while Minister for Finance, Naveed Qamar said the session of the national assembly would continue till the president’s impeachment. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani also attended the meeting. Talking to the media, PML-N senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that the resolution to get a vote of confidence by the president should be approved from the four provinces before being brought to the National Assembly.
Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Amir Liaquat Baloch said on Monday that his party will support coalition partners to impeach President Pervez Musharraf. Talking to state TV, he said that JI senators would extend their unqualified support to the coalition government for the impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf. However, he said, it would have been much better if deposed judges be restored through executive order before the start of impeachment proceedings.
Liaquat Baloch said people of the country are confident for the restoration of deposed judges and success of impeach move. To a question he said people want solution of their major issues as soon as possible as they are facing economic hardships and law and order other problems.-SANA
