ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet will meet at Prime Minister Secretariat on Wednesday on August 13. It will be presided over by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. The Meeting will ratify the impeachment motion of President Pervez Musharraf. The cabinet will be apprised about details of the charge sheet prepared by the coalition partners. The Prime Minister will take the cabinet members into confidence on the impeachment of President Musharraf.
The meeting will be attended by PML-N four Ministers that include Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Ahsan Iqbal, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Tanveer Hussain and Sardar Mehtab Abbasi. The meeting besides discussing political situation of the country would also review law and order situation.
While Co-chairman, Pakistan People’s Party, Asif Ali Zardari said it is parliament’s privilege to impeach the President and this right will definitely be used. During a meeting with the members of Sindh Cabinet, Asif Zardari said despite having simple majority contacts will be made with other parties to seek their support for vote of confidence in Sindh Assembly. He said the Sindh ministers have been tasked with obtaining maximum support for the impeachment. He suggested approaching MPAs of Mehar group in this regard. The PPP CO-chairman was told that Mehar group had itself made contacts with the PPP while two MPAs of Pakistan Muslim League-Q have also pledged their support to the President’s impeachment.
PML-(N) leader Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said today’s joint parliamentary party meeting has proved it beyond any doubt that the impeachment move would succeed as it has support of majority of the members. The ruling coalition has a total strength of 253 in the National Assembly. Today’s meeting was attended by 244 members. These included 125 from PPP, 91 of PML-(N), and 11 from FATA, 13 members of ANP, 4 MNAs of JUI (F) and five independents.
Before that All members of the ruling coalition in a meeting of the parliamentary party on Monday supported the impeachment of the president, while Minister for Finance, Naveed Qamar said the session of the national assembly would continue till the president’s impeachment. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani also attended the meeting. Talking to the media, PML-N senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that the resolution to get a vote of confidence by the president should be approved from the four provinces before being brought to the National Assembly.
Information Minister Sherry Rehman in this regard has termed the impeachment of the President as a movement for supremacy of constitution and a public struggle to achieve the ultimate goal of real democracy. Talking to media here on Monday she said impeachment is a tremendous step to role back dictatorship and ensure supremacy of democratic forces who intend to run the country through democratic way.
She said the coalition partners have worked out charge sheet against the President however; the alliance would welcome any information from PML (Q) to further strengthen this charge sheet. She said it is a difficult time but expressed the confidence that the ruling alliance would be successful to impeach the President as it has sufficient votes to do so.
