33 killed in Swat clashes, more forces called in

Thirty three people have been killed in the ongoing operation in Swat while more forces have been called in on the requisition of the provincial government. According to sources, 21 citizens were killed and more than 50 injured when mortar shells fell on houses. Those dead also included 5 women and 9 children. Ten Taliban have also been killed in the offensive launched by the security forces while more than 30 houses were damaged.

Also, six of a family was killed in Derai Sakai area of Tehsil Kabal when a mortar fell at their house. Meanwhile, unidentified miscreants torched a girl’s school in Khawazakhela and two schools in Peshora area. A couple was injured when a mortar shell landed at their house in Nusrat Kalay area. Security forces targeted Taliban hideouts with mortar shells in Sarbanda, Barmaba Khela, Peochar, Numl and Gutshor areas in Tehsil Matta.

Sources said that 10 Taliban were killed and several injured during the operation. Taliban attacked Kabal police station and Wanai check post. They managed to flee after joint retaliatory action by police and security forces. Fresh contingents of FC have reached Matta and Kabal areas. According to ISPR, curfew has been relaxed from 10:00 am to 12: noon in the district.

According to other news At least 13 people perished when a mortar shell hit houses in Kabal area of swat. Seven, including Imam-e-Masjid, his wife and five children of his family, were killed in Tehsil Kabal when a rocket landed in their house. And five other lost their lives in another Mortar attack in Sakai area. While, curfew was re-imposed in Swat and Mangora after two hours relaxation and fresh troops of Frontier Corp reached Matta and Kabal to take part in the operation.

Reports suggest that the Security Forces destroyed various hideouts of the militants in Tehsil Matta, the stronghold of the local Taliban. The Taliban attacked Kabal Police Station and Walai Check post but they were compelled to retreat when the security forces retaliated. Meanwhile an unidentified dead body was found near Kabal Police Station. The militants set on fire a school in Alam Ganj and destroyed a bridge in Tehsil Matta. The police arrested five suspected persons in Nawa Kaley.-SANA
