Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman has said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has issued directives that every action against militants (in FATA areas) should be “result oriented” and conclusive. She said the Prime Minister has also directed that the common man should be protected from inconvenience during these peace efforts. The Information Minister was briefing newsmen on the decisions of the Federal Cabinet which met at Governor House here with the Prime Minister in chair on Wednesday.
Responding to a question about decision of the Federal Cabinet, she said the PM’s Advisor, Rehman Malik briefed the meeting about the on-going peace efforts in the tribal areas. She made it clear that these efforts have been started on the request of NWFP Governor and Chief Minister after consultation with all the coalition partners under a pre-determined three-pronged strategy.
Ms Sherry Rehman said the NWFP government is onboard regarding the peace efforts to restore the writ of the government. Explaining the three-pronged strategy, she said the government wants to provide health and education to the people of tribal areas, besides creating employment opportunities through reconstruction of opportunity zones (ROZs). She said the government has taken all fundamental decisions after taking all coalition partners into confidence to follow a balanced policy.-SANA
