Finance Bill to break deadlock on judges’ issue: Wattoo

ISLAMABAD: “Approval of the Finance Bill by the National Assembly that also provides for raise in the strength of Supreme Court judges from the current 16 to 29 will break the deadlock over the issue of restoration of deposed judges. It will also help the major coalition partners, PPP and PML (N) to move forward on the proposed constitutional Package.” This was stated by Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo Advisor/Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives on Tuesday.

Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo said that both the major coalition partners, PPP and PML (N) had shown great political wisdom and maturity in finding a way to move forward on the issue of judges’ restoration “Its not a defeat or victory for any party nor it will give political advantage to one party or the other rather it has established supremacy of the parliament”, said Mr. Wattoo adding that “this development will certainly strengthen the ongoing democratic process by cementing the coalition between PPP and PML (N). He further said that agreement on judges’ issue will help the coalition government to focus on other pressing problems, and challenges being faced by the people of Pakistan.

In this regard Advisor on Industries Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo called on the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday. Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani directed the Ministry of Industries and Production to work out innovative strategies to encourage both local and foreign investment in the country.

While Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that increasing number of the Supreme Court’s Judges through finance bill will weaken the apex court. Responding to a question in a joint press conference here along with the APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq he said Tuesday that the lawyers’ long march has produced results as people became aware of the real issue of the judges.

The JI leader said that they want to see strong democratic system in the country. He said the country is facing problems due to Musharraf’s faulty policies. To another question he said that it was not possible for the PCO judges to decide a case against Nawaz Sharif as they are not free judges. We should see that who dictate them to do so for changing Nawaz’s stance regarding judiciary. Responding to a question he said that MMA is not functional and Maulana Fazlurrehman is not part of the opposition. He should quit the government first then JI would think about revival of MMA, Qazi added.
