ISLAMABAD: Senator Sanaullah Baloch, senior leader of the BNP has resigned from the Senate seat in protest against what he called the injustice and the army operation in Balochistan which led to the killing of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. Speaking on his resignation Leader of the House in the Senate Mian Raza Rabbani has said that the coalition government is making sincere efforts for reconciliation throughout the country for strengthening of federation.
Mian Raza Rabbani said that PPP Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari initiated a dialogue with Baloch leadership for reconciliation and offered apology for the actions taken by the previous government in that province to deprive Baloch from their due rights. He said that he again offered apology on behalf of the coalition government to the people of Balochistan and assured them that the government is sincere to resolve their problems. He said the government wants a dialogue with the Baloch leadership to bring them in the mainstream so that they realize equal stakeholder in the federation.
He assured that the government will make measures so that the demography of the province could not be changed and the people coming to Gwadar from other parts country to settle there would not be given the right of vote. Mian Raza Rabbani requested Sanaullah Baloch to review his decision about resignation in the interest of the federation and Balochistan. He also requested the Senate Chairman to not accept the resignation till that that when party of Sanaullah Baloch is taken into confidence for reviewing this decision.
Mushahid Hussain Syed speaking on this occasion said we should offer apology against the wrong doings which have been done to that province in the national interest. He appreciated the initiative taken by the government and Asif Ali Zardari to make efforts of reconciliation. He regretted that the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Balochistan could not be implemented. He said Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti was a patriotic Pakistani and the Senate Committee reached on agreement with him but it was sabotaged.
Advisor on Interior Rehman Malik said that the coalition government is working for reconciliation with all political forces. He said that he will meet with the BNP leader Akhtar Mengal to pursue them to reconsider the decision of resignation of Sanaullah Baloch. Some other members also criticized the policies of the previous government in Balochistan which created a sense of deprivation among the people of that province.-SANA
