NCHD contributing significantly in literacy promotion

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly has been informed that the National Commission for Human Development is contributing significantly for the promotion of literacy in the country and provision of basic healthcare facilities to the masses. Minister Incharge for Cabinet Division Syed Khurshid Shah told the House during question hour on Firday that the federal government has allocated two point three billion rupees for the activities of the Commission and so far one point three billion rupees have been released to the Commission.

He said that the NCHD has enrolled three point four million children in one hundred seventeen districts and set up forty eight thousand four hundred and twenty eight literacy centres which provided basic education to over one million adults. He asked the MNAs to visit the schools set up by the Commission and check their performance so that the Government could take appropriate measures for its improvement.

Syed Khurshid Shah said the Capital Development Authority has allocated land to China Mobile for establishment of centre for Software Development and Mobile content in Islamabad. He said that China Mobile has committed to invest over eight hundred million dollars in mobile network extension within two years. To a question he said CDA has auctioned eight plots in the orchard block during the last three years for farm houses while it has allotted fourteen plots in compensation of those whose lands were acquired by the CDA in other sectors.

He agreed with the members that inquiry should be held against auctioned plots beside those four hundred ninety nine plots which were pointed out by Supreme Court as allotted in violation of the rules.-SANA
