CJP addresses lawyers’ convention; Bench formed to hear CJ’s Manhandling

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has constituted an 11-member special larger bench of the Supreme Court for next week to hear on June 2 the pending case of manhandling last year of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
HYDERABAD:Deposed chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry addressed to the lawyers of Sindh High Court Bar Association Hyderabad and District Association Hyderabad on Friday. In his address to the convention, he said constitution of Pakistan can only run through law and to accomplish this lawyer’s movement will certainly successful.

We want the restoration of the judiciary in light of November 3 order of the Supreme Court (SC), which was passed against the declaration of emergency, he said. The people of the country, lawyers, civil society and political parties have to decide whether they want pre-November 3 judiciary or post – November 3 judiciary, he said. Earlier, on arrival in Hyderabad, the Chief Justice was accorded warm welcome be member of the legal fraternity, lawyers associations and members of the civil society.

Deposed Chief Justice of Supreme Court Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the basic aim of the lawyers’ community struggle is supremacy of constitution and rule of law. His telephonic address to Sindh High Court and District Bar Association on Friday, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry hoped that the supremacy of the constitution and rule of law would be restored in the country soon as 160 people supporting lawyers’ movement. He said that the lawyers have been running movement for last fourteen months and he paid rich tributes to the lawyers’ fraternity. Deposed CJ pointed out that the masses victim of deprivation owing to lack of supremacy of the constitution, adding that Hyderabad was his second city as he got initial education from here. The struggle of the lawyers will not go waste, he said and hoped that pre-November 3 judiciary would be restored in the country.

According to the cause-list issued by the fixture branch of the Supreme Court, the special larger bench comprises Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, Justice M.Javed Buttar, Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan, Justice Muhammad Qaim Jan Khan, Justice Ch. Ejaz Yousaf, Justice Muhammad Akhtar Shabbir, Justice Zia Pervez, Justice Mian Hamid Farooq, Justice Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery and Justice Muhammad Farrukh Mehmood.

The PPP is committed to the restoration of deposed judges as it has sacrificed precious lives for the prestige and honour of the judiciary. Talking to Radio Tehran, PPP Provincial Information Secretary Farzana Raja has said free judiciary is PPP’s top objective. She said there is no difference over the reinstatement of judiciary. The coalition partners are agreed over a principled stand to reinstate the deposed judges. She said PPP wants the judiciary to work independently so they are bringing the constitutional package to solve all these issues.
