Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the government is paying special attention to the development of under-developed areas of the country and will take urgent steps for the provision of basic necessities of life to the people. He was talking to former Senator Dr. Muhammad Akbar Khawaja who called on him on Wednesday. The Prime Minister said that despite facing various challenges the government is committed to introduce reforms in every sector of society.
Profile of Senator Dr. Muhammad Akbar Khawaja
He holds Doctor of Science from the George Washington University and MBA in Finance from the University of Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Khawaja is a seasoned expert in financial systems with 25 years of broad based experience including 16 years of World Bank experience in dealing with complex financial and institutional building issues in South Asia, Central Asia, and East Asia. He has worked in several sectors including Finance, Industry, Energy, Education, Information Technology, and Telecommunication. His expertise extends to policy, strategy and fiscal reform, financial systems integration, asset management, budget planning and resource management, financial and private sector development, change management, capacity building and training, public expenditure assessments and analysis, inter-governmental fiscal relations, municipal finance, devolution planning and implementation, energy finance, and project management.
Before joining the Senate of Pakistan, Dr. Khawaja worked with the World Bank and client governments in support of financial systems strategies and sustainable economic growth and development. He holds Doctor of Science from the George Washington University and MBA in Finance from the University of Ottawa, Canada. In addition, he has attended several workshops and management courses at reputable universities (i.e. M.I.T., Harvard) and at other international development organizations. Dr. Khawaja has served on the Board of Directors of the Development Gateway Foundation, and E-Community Link.
