ISLAMABAD: 10th anniversary of nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan in 1998 was celebrated on Wednesday. Foreign office spokesman in a statement in Islamabad on Wednesday described it as an historic day in the nation’s quest for security. He said Pakistan has taken its responsibility as a nuclear weapon state seriously and not relented in its pursuit for creating a peaceful global and regional environment.

The spokesman pointed out that Pakistan at all levels bilaterally and multilaterally has endeavored to promote the cause of peace disarmament and non-proliferation. We have urged restraint and responsibility and initiated additional proposals for mutual confidence building to promote stability in the region.

He said Pakistan instituted an elaborate nuclear command and control mechanism eight years ago overseeing custodial control of its all strategic assets. He said Pakistan is opposed to nuclear armed race in South Asia but it will never remain oblivious to its security requirements and needs of its economic development.-SANA
