Geelani warns of ‘genocide’ in IHK

BARAMULLA: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has said that India is “planning to carry out the genocide of Kashmiris” on the lines of 1947 Jammu massacre. “India is following a strategy of changing the Muslim majority into minority by settling down troops permanently here. They have occupied every nook and corner. People living in densely populated areas cannot construct their houses as no space has been left by troops. They want to settle down troops along with their families here permanently,” Geelani told reporters at the sidelines of a Seerat conference here in north Kashmir.

The veteran leader further said, “After turning Kashmir Muslims into minority they will either repeat Jammu massacre of 1947 or would carry out the genocide as was done in Gujarat and would push remaining Muslims into other part of Kashmir.” Terming the concentration of troops as a step towards changing the demography of the State, Geelani said, “Earlier one battalion of troopers would settle down on 75 acres and now they require 150 acres of land here. Settling troopers along with their families in the state is a part of the strategy to out number Kashmiri Muslims.”

Referring to the Junoon band from Pakistan performing in Srinagar, Geelani said, “These people have come on Indian agenda here. Those who talk peace here are pursuing Indian agenda. Pakistan should not have allowed these dancers and singers as well as other delegations to come here as this is a disputed state.” Urging people to stay away from polls, Geelani said there is no logic to vote for those whose hands are “soaked with blood of Kashmiris,” “NC, PDP and Congress are the different faces of a same coin. The only job of these parties is to strengthen the Indian occupation here.” About participation of people in rallies of mainstream parties, Geelani said, “These people are deceiving people by promising them roads, jobs and development.”-SANA
