Package to restore judges and empower parliament: PM

LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani has said that constitutional package for restoration of deposed judges and further empowering the parliament has been prepared and its copies will be provided to the coalition partners for reaching upon a consensus. He was talking to senior journalists and columnists here on Sunday. The Prime Minister said that time and modalities for implementing the constitutional package will be decided in consultation with the coalition partners. He said that PPP has its own policies and does not want to adopt any confrontation with any one.

The Prime Minister said that 1973 constitution is neither in a parliamentary nor a presidential form at present due to amendments made in it. He said PPP believes in the parliamentary system of the government and wants to restore the 1973 constitution in its original shape for ensuring the supremacy of the parliament. About the situation in Blaochistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that the government wants to solve its problem through parlays with the peace loving forces. He said for this purpose an All Pakistan Conference on Balochistan will be convened. He said there should not be any use of force instead the Balochistan issue should be solved politically and democratically.

The Prime Minister said similarly, the government wants political reforms in the Tribal Areas for which a peace initiative would be initiated with those who lay down arms. He said education and health would be provided and revolutionary changes will be made in these areas. He said that PPP sincerely wants to make the country a cradle of peace and hub of development for which all out efforts would be made.-SANA
