International donor conference to help Myanmar

ISLAMABAD: An international donor conference to pledge aid for the victims of Myanmar’s cyclone has opened in Yangoon. According to a foreign TV channel about fifty two countries as well as twenty four UN agencies and aid groups are attending the conference organized by the United Nations and Myanmar’s neighbouring countries in South Asia.

The conference comes after the UN Secretary General opened a new supply base in neighboring Thailand which will serve as a staging place for aid flights into Burma. According to UN estimates, two point four million people are in dire need of emergency relief in Myanmar.-SANA
