NFC Award to come after consensus: Shazia Marri

HYDERABAD: Sindh Information Minister, Shazia Atta Marri has said that National Finance Commission Award will be prepared on basis of consensus among all provinces of the country. Talking to journalists at Khyber More, National Highway, on her way to her native district Sanghar on Thursday, Shazia Marri said differences and disappointments previously registered would also be attempted to be amicably resolved by the present government.

Thousands of the workers and supporters of Pakistan Peoples Party were gathered at Khyber More to accord rousing welcome to the minister who is visiting her home district for the first time after assuming the office of the Provincial Information Ministry. The NFC Award – 1996 was based on injustices committed against masses of the country, the minister said. Sindh Information Minister said the provincial government was currently engaged in preparing recommendations, under Article 160 of the Constitution, which would be forwarded to the federal government for consideration and incorporation into the forthcoming NFC Award.

She said attempts would be made to evolve consensus among all four provinces ultimately helping to acquire an acceptable formula. “The people of Sindh will get their due share in this award,” she assured. Responding to a question about the local government system as well as creation of districts by previous government, Shazia Atta Mari said that the present government has come into power with the support of the masses and all issues will be tackled according to their wishes. The districts, which were created by the previous government were against the will of the people and the present government will make decision in this direction with the consensus of the masses, she said.

The Minister said the wrong economic policies of the previous government had forced the people to commit suicide, but the present government was fully determined to bring reforms in the economic sector so that it could be viable and provide relief to the people. Overcoming the problems of unemployment and poverty are the major goals of the present government and a comprehensive approach has been adopted, she said. Sindh Information Minister said a network of development would be ensured in all parts of the province.-SANA
