PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) has backed restoration of deposed judges of the superior courts and said that a resolution has been prepared for the purpose hoping restoration before the budget, party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan said. “We are in favour of an independent judiciary and want all the sacked judges,” briefing reporters about the maiden meeting of the ANP central working committee after February 18 elections, the ANP chief said.
He said the ANP was part of the efforts made by the federal government to resolve the judges’ issue; a resolution to this effect has been prepared and the judges are likely to be restored before the next national budget. He however criticized taking political mileage out of the judges’ issue. He said that he sincerely wanted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to be part of the coalition government, as the prevalent situation in the country needed a collective effort by all the political forces of the country. Asfandyar Wali on a question said his party would not accept Kalabagh Dam project. He further said that the government was not considering over change of the NWFP governor adding that the governor will be changed with consultation of the ANP.-SANA
