Aitzaz announces to boycott by-polls

ISLAMABAD: President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Chaudhary Aitzaz Ehsan has announced to boycott by-elections being held next month. According to various news channels, the SCBA president was addressing a Press Conference in Lahore on Sunday. It may be noted that Ch. Aitzaz Ehsan had filed nomination papers for NA-55 Rawalpindi but he now announced not to contest the by-election. During his news conference, Aitzaz Ahsan said the long march of the lawyers would launch from Multan and Peshawar on June 10 would reach Islamabad on June 11.

He urged the lawyers’ fraternity, civil society, political workers, students, labourers and people of every wake of life should take part in the long march for the restoration of the judges and independence of the judiciary. He vowed he would utilize would his all energies for the restoration of judges and independence of the judiciary. Aitzaz Ahsan hoped all deposed judges who were sacked by President Pervez Musharraf would be restored soon.

He pointed out that the independence of the judiciary was necessary for the development of the country. About restoration of judges through joint resolution, the SCBA President said that the lawyers always trusted every announcement of the PPP and PML-N about the reinstatement of judges but it could not fulfill. “The lawyers have no plan to encircle GHQ as the army is not interfering” he added. He said that all the judges were restored as they were not removed legally but stopped them from working.-SANA
