Pakistan Muslim League-N reacted annoyingly over appointment of Salman Taseer as the new governor of Punjab. Though Pakistan People’s Party has explained that it had agreed to Taseer’s selection after getting his name cleared from a couple of PML-N’s leaders including Shahbaz Sharif. while PML-N has made their point clear by saying that there is difference between consultancy and informing about some decision. Experts are naming this appointment as “battle lines between Nawaz and Zardari camps”
While Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that no consultations were made with the PML-N about the appointment of new governor in Punjab province. Addressing a press conference here at PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif’s residence on Thursday, he termed appointment of Salman Taseer part as Governor Punjab part of a conspiracy being hatched in the presidency. He pointed out that Salman Taseer is not suitable as Governor of Punjab as he is a highly controversial person. Chaudhry Nisar said the appointment is a clear indication that the presidential camp is still busy sabotaging the people’s mandate in Punjab. He said that Salman Taseer is a highly controversial person and his background as a politician and businessman is dubious. The PML-N leader alleged that this recent move is an attempt by the presidential camp to destabilize the Punjab government after failing to change PML-Q’s top leadership.
While PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar was of the point that Asif Zardari had discussed the appointment with Khawaja Asif also and Punjab Chief Minister Dost Muhammad Khosa. He reiterated PPP’s decision by saying that Taseer was the most appropriate of the suggested candidates for the post.
There were news about the Asif Zardari’s role in Punjab politics, sources disclosed that Asif Zardari has expressed his interest for sitting regularly in the Governor’s House, also would direct Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to visit the Punjab regularly to boost the morale of his party. After 11 years of his arrest by Army from Governor House on November 5, 1996 Zardari would visit the Governor House, when Farooq Leghari had dismissed the government of Benazir Bhutto.
Salman Taseer, who has started his career as chartered accountant, has been PPP stalwart, a media tycoon, owned TV channel and newspaper; businessman who was famous for Gulf money through profitable ventures in Pakistan more appropriately a person who earned money thorough his corruption. he is most significantly known for his pro-Musharraf views and is indeed reported to have called on the president at his camp office on Thursday. He has been deputy opposition leader in Punjab assembly from PPP in 1988, while Nawaz Sharif was Chief Minister of Punjab. He had his hard stance against Nawz Sharif government, he has also been Secretary Information of PPP.
