PM for taking measures to restore 1973 Constitution

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the government is determined to take all possible measures to restore the 1973 Constitution and strengthen the parliament. Addressing a news conference in Lahore this afternoon he said it is the responsibility of all the political parties to take the country out of the present day crisis and work untidily to mitigate the sufferings of the people. He said broad based governments have been set up in centre and provinces and it is the policy of the government to take all of its stake holders along to appropriately solve all the problems confronting the nation. The Prime Minister said PPP had rendered unprecedented services under the dynamic leadership of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for the constitution, judiciary and democracy.

He said the present government is committed to uphold the commitment which the Party has made with the nation. To a question, the Prime Minister said there is no pressure on the government regarding the restoration of judges. Earlier, talking to a delegation of the elected representatives and party office bearers of the Lahore division the Prime Minister said the government is fully committed to restore the deposed judges of superior courts. He said efforts are underway to overcome differences with the coalition partner PML-N on the issue of modalities for restoration. About the ongoing energy crisis in the country, the Prime Minister said it would be solved on sound footings by holding a meeting of all the concerned stakeholders.-SANA
