25 houses gutted in Kishtwar

JAMMU: About 25 houses were gutted and several animals burnt alive in devastating fire in Angoi village, about 85 kilometres from Kishtwar town. Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Shahid Innayatullah said that on the intervening night of April 27 and 28, an information was received about the gutting of 25 residential houses and several cattle sheds in remote Ongoi village, 25 kilometres from Paddar.

In the morning, police and civil administration rushed teams to the village, which neither has any road connectivity nor communication link, alongwith essential commodities, blankets and cash for the affected families. “Nothing can be said about the exact loss of property and livestock in the devastating fire as to reach the village one has to trek a distance of 10 kilometres on foot and keeping in view the tough terrain the teams might have reached the village in the evening”, the Deputy Commissioner said.

It would be only after the return of the teams and receipt of feed-back from them that adequate relief and rehabilitation measures would be taken by the administration, Mr Innayatullah said, adding even the causes of the devastating fire will have to be ascertained before granting relief.-SANA
