Judges to be restored without confrontation with President

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Law, Farooq H. Naek has said that the deposed judges would be restored without any confrontation with the presidency or any other institution of the country. He was talking to newsmen in Karachi prior to his departure for Dubai to attended a meeting between PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif. Farooq Naek said as Asif Ali Zardari is in Dubai, so he called me there to discuss the judges’ issue and take any final decision in this regard. I have also learnt that Shahbaz Sharif is going to Dubai as well to meet Zardari, he said.

He rejected the impression that PPP and Asif Ali Zardari did not want reinstatement of the judges. “An impression is being created in the media that PPP or Asif Ali Zardari did not want judges’ restoration, which is absolutely incorrect. I categorically deny it. But at the same time, we want judges’ reinstatement within the absolute framework of law and the constitution so that it may not become as issue again.”

Asif Ali Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif are committed to their stance and the issue will not shatter the coalition government at all. Both the leaders want complete democracy, rule of law and independence judiciary. As far as confrontation with the President is concerned, I don’t think there would be any confrontation, he said.

Complications can surface in the process, but I hope the meeting would remove all such complications and positive results would come out, he added. To a question whether judges can be restored by April 30, the Minister of Law replied that the nation and the lawyers should exercise restraint for some more days and the government’s step would be in the batter interest of the nation, judiciary and the country.-SANA
