Pakistan and China understand each other’s position: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said Pakistan enjoys a strategic partnership with China which is based on strong trust, abiding cooperation and understanding of each other’s positions. Talking to the Chinese Foreign Minister Mr.Yang Jiechi here on Saturday, Prime Minister said Pakistan accords high priority to its close relationship with China and is keen to further expand it in all spheres of life.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan and China enjoy a broad-based relationship as the two countries are actively cooperating in political, diplomatic, social, economic and defence fields. During the meeting there was a complete harmony to further increase trade, investments and cooperation in the fields of defence, science and technology, education besides enhancing people to people contact.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is confronted with the challenges of food and energy security. He said the government of Pakistan has already started working on incorporating short and long term measures to overcome these challenges. He said that his government would welcome Chinese cooperation in this regard to effectively deal with these problems at the earliest.

While referring to the Free Trade Agreement with China, the Prime Minister said that FTA would open up new avenues to further enhance trade between Pakistan and China. He further said the government of Pakistan had given a lot of incentives to the Chinese to invest in Pakistan so that the economic ties between the two countries could be further strengthened. Chinese Foreign Minister said that his government and the people of China always regard Pakistan as their true friend and hoped that existing relations between the two countries would further gain momentum in future.

He said that his government would encourage big companies of China to invest in Pakistan in various sectors. He said China would also provide to Pakistan seventy million RMB as technical and economic assistance. The Chinese Foreign Minister further said that China would continue its cooperation with Pakistan in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

He also extended invitation to the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to visit China in the near future which the Prime Minister accepted. The Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi also called on President Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi and discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest and bilateral ties.-SANA

Chinese delegation visits CCRI
ISLAMABAD: A three-member Chinese delegation visited the Central Cotton Research Institute Multan on Saturday. The purpose of the visit is enhancing the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of Science, Technology and Agriculture. Director Central Cotton Research Institute Multan informed the delegation about the Research work carried out at the institute to enhance the cotton yield. The Head of the Chinese delegation Mr. Leo exchanged views about the research work on curl leave cotton virus that Pakistan and China will enhance cooperation to control the various cotton diseases.
