Hong Kong: The Consulate General of Pakistan, Hong Kong held the Fourth Annual Debate and Essay Writing Competition on Thursday at the Pakistan Association Club, 150 Princess Margarate Road, Kowloon. Deputy Secretary, Mainland and Constitution Affairs, Mr. Arthur Ho was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony.
The Consulate held this event with the intention to integrate the large number of Pakistanis living in Hong Kong with the local population through this healthy competitive activity, which would encourage intercultural understanding and spirit of comradeship among the participating students who hailed from diverse backgrounds representing cosmopolitan Hong Kong’s Pakistani, Indian, Nepali and Chinese communities.
More than two hundred students from 5 Hong Kong schools took part in the competition. The topics were “Destiny lies in your own hands” and “Material Development leads to moral degradation”. Lively and intellectual arguments both in favor of and against the subject were given. These were thoroughly enjoyed and applauded by the audience. The events were held in both English and Urdu.
Results of the event will be forwarded to the participants’ respective schools in a few days. Awards will be distributed on Pakistan Independence Day 14 August 2008. The event was attended by senior officers of the Consulate General, a large number of Pakistanis living in Hong Kong, students, teachers and parents of the students. The participating schools were Delia Memorial School Broadway; Delia Memorial School,Hipwo; Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College; Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School; St. Margarate’s Secondary School, West Kowloon; Co-Education Secondary & Primary School.-SANA
