Afghan, Indian poll panels to ink MoU

KABUL: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India N. Gopalaswamy is scheduled to arrive in Afghanistan tomorrow (Tuesday) on a three-day official visit. Gopalaswamys visit is in response to an invitation from Chairman of Independent Election Commission (IEC) of Afghanistan Dr. Azizullah Lodin. Afghanistans Independent Election Commission said on Monday poll panels of the two countries had been interacting on a regular basis as part of New Delhis continued commitment to rebuilding of Afghanistan and its institutional capacity-building.

In order to expand the existing cooperation and widen the areas of interaction between the two institutions, ECI and IEC have finalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). During the visit, Gopalaswamy and Dr. Lodin will ink the MoU before formal talks between the two sides. They will later address a joint news conference at the IEC Secretariat compound on the Jalalabad Road in Kabul.-SANA
