KARACHI: Muttaheda Qaumi Movemennt (MQM) Sunday finally decided to sit in the opposition at Centre and in Sindh. The decision came after the meeting of MQM’s Rabita Committee after reviewing the outcome of talks with PPP that they claimed ‘non-serious’. Addressing an emergency press conference at MQM Headquarter Nine Zero this evening, MQM Parliamentary Leader in the National Assembly Dr. Farooq Sattar said the Rabta Committee’s decision has been endorsed by MQM Chief Altaf Hussain.
Dr. Farooq Sattar, said that while in opposition, MQM will play a positive and constructive role and will not create any hurdles in the way of the government and would support its positive acts and continue its efforts for the establishment of an environment of reconciliation and brotherhood in Sindh province owing to the fact that the country is surrounded with dangers and there is dire need to tolerate each other.
However, he declared, there could be no compromise on honour, dignity and principles.
He pointed out that not only the government, but opposition also is a part of democracy and hoped that the government would respect the role and mandate of the opposition. He made it clear that MQM cannot be cowed down with state power because it is not 1995 but 2008 where no voice can be suppressed with force.-SANA
