Islamabad Fully Prepared To Host Olympic Torch Relay: Minister

Islamabad: Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Federal minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources and Sports has said that Islamabad is fully prepared to successfully host the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay arriving in Pakistan on April 16, 2008. “Olympics Torch Relay is another manifestation of “all-weather, close” Sino- Pak friendship” he added.

He expressed these views while talking to Mr. Luo Zhao Hui, Chinese ambassador, who called on him at his office in here on Wednesday to review the arrangements regarding the Olympic Torch Relay. The Chinese Ambassador reposed confidence in the administrative and security arrangements made by the government of Pakistan for Olympics Torch Relay in Pakistan.

Hui informed the minister that Pakistan was among the 19 countries of the 196 UN member nations selected for Olympics Torch Relay which will be a global event as it will pass through five continents for the first time ever. Islamabad, he said, was one of only 22 cities in the world chosen for the Relay as the Chinese people and government wanted their Pakistani brethren to share the Olympic spirit. Chinese ambassador felicitated the minister for assuming his new responsibilities in the government.-SANA
