ISLAMABAD: The British Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, Tuesday left for UK after a two-day visit to Pakistan. During the visit, Ms Smith discussed a range of issues, including counter-terrorism, migration and counter-narcotics, with Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Information Minister Sherry Rehman and Interior Adviser Rehman Malik, and thanked them for Pakistan’s ongoing co-operation in tackling extremism and terrorism in both countries.

During her visit, Ms Smith promised to work closely with the new Government of Pakistan to confront joint challenges, including by sharing the experience of the British Government in working with communities in the UK to tackle the underlying causes of radicalisation.

Shortly before leaving Islamabad, Ms Smith said, “I have had a very productive visit and I look forward to working even more closely with the Pakistani Government on all those issues where we have interests in common – and particularly on defeating terrorism and extremism.”-SANA
