ISLAMABAD: Federal minister for commerce Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said here Monday that small and medium enterprises (SME) are the backbone of the economy. He was addressing the Rawalpindi chambers of commerce and industries in his office. President of the Pindi chamber of commerce Abdur Rauf Chaudhri greeted him on assuming charge of federal minister for commerce.
The president apprised the minister regarding problems being faced by the Pindi chamber. The delegation also demanded of the minister that the chambers should be involved in the trade policy formulation. It was suggested that some technical institutes might be established in the Rawalpindi region to overcome the dearth of technical labour that are being hired from far-flung areas. They also suggested for the conversion of Rawat Industrial zone into Export processing zone.
A 16-member delegation of the Islamabad chamber of commerce also called on the minister. The president of the chamber Mr. Ajaz Abbasi thanked the minister for starting the process of meeting the chambers of commerce. The minister insured that their suggestions would be taken into account. He told that the process of consultation would continue.-SANA
