RAWALPINDI: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has stopped entry of heavy traffic from NWFP to Islamabad resulting in total traffic jam in Rawalpindi Cantonment area. ITC installed a board on the Motorway Chowk that redirects heavy traffic from Peshawar denying entry to the federal capital. Islamabad police, in a bid to show efficiency to the incumbent government, put commuters of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in heavy traffic. Traffic mess and long queue of vehicles in the entire city of Rawalpindi also undermine security in the cantonment.
According to details, heavy traffic from NWFP cannot enter Islamabad using Kashmir Highway that was constructed for the very purpose. The entire load of the heavy traffic is now on the Rawalpindi Cantt. that has created traffic jam on Peshawar road. Residents have suggested ITP to reconsider its decision and prudently devise traffic plan that may allow entry of heavy traffic on Kashmir Highway and I J Principal Road using Police Lines road. If this plan is put to practice then there will be smooth flow of traffic to I-9 enroute Faizabad.-SANA
