Mufti urges India, Pakistan to avail opportunity to resolve Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Apr 02 (SANA): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed today said that Indian and Pakistani leadership should avail the golden opportunity to resolve the vexed Kashmir issue making it major cross-border hub which would ensure a long-term coordination of matters and interests relating to the whole State. Sayeed was addressing party senior leaders; district and zonal presidents meet here at his official residence in Gupkar.

Sayeed said that the manner in which PDP is proposing to design the new institutional arrangements, the state has the potential to be a showcase for a renewed and vigorous SAARC or even a global showpiece of sub-national community. He added that his party is trying to contextualize constitutional, political and economic relationship between the two parts of the state and their respective mainlands with a sign off from the international community. The PDP Patron expressed his satisfaction over the rising public support for party’s political and developmental agenda which he said is not only in the interest of this trouble torn state but for the entire sub-continent as well giving the vitality of the four-year-old composite dialogue between India and Pakistan. He added that he hopes that the present dispensation in Pakistan will pick up the thread from where it was left by the president Parvez Musharraf.

Sayeed said that since the India’s external affairs minister has already expressed his desire to visit Pakistan it was essential for the leadership of the both the countries to rejuvenate the peace process which is directly linked with the stability of the entire region. He added that Government of India must, without any further delay, implement the working group recommendations encompassing various intra and inter-state Confidence Building Measures including safe passage for all such youth who have shunned the path of violence and are eager to return and live peaceful lives.

He said that PDP has envisaged a sketch to bring the people out of quagmire and it is committed to strengthen the genuine political process in the state which can facilitate the permanent resolution of the vexed Kashmir issue. Sayeed said that people of the state wish to enjoy the fruits of democracy and PDP can rightly claim to have made its contribution in that direction which resulted into historic political transition in 2002.-SANA
