Lawyers want strong parliament

ISLAMABAD: President Supreme Court Bar Association Atizaz Ahsan has said it was unlikely that lawyers would clash with Parliament but movement would surely be launched if judges would not be restored. Talking to newsmen outside residence of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Atizaz said that they want to see a strong parliament adding that however, options of long march and launching movement for the restoration of judges were being kept open in case judiciary was not restored.

Later, Aitzaz went to meet Justice Iftikhar. Lawyers’ leaders Munir A Malik and Ali Ahmad Kurd and Tariq Mahmood also accompanied him. It is pertinent to mention that house arrest of the deposed judges including Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry came to end under an executive order, issued by the newly elected Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, immediately after his election in the parliament. It is also worth to note that PPP talks about independence of judiciary and PML-N supports restoration of the judges. -SANA
